ShopHop is a free, independent Australian supermarket price comparison tool that tracks live grocery prices across Woolworths, Coles and Aldi every day. Unlike supermarket apps that only show you their own prices, ShopHop shows all three chains side by side so you can see at a glance where a product is cheapest.

ShopHop does not just show today’s price. It stores the full price history for every product it tracks. This means you can see whether a product is genuinely on sale or whether the was price was inflated shortly before the promotion began. ShopHop applies the same standard the ACCC used in its Federal Court case against Coles to evaluate whether promotional prices are supported by genuine pricing history.

ShopHop has no commercial relationship with any supermarket. It is not sponsored by Woolworths, Coles or Aldi. Its goal is to give Australian shoppers an independent, data driven view of what supermarkets are actually charging.

A Federal Court ruled in May 2026 that Coles misled shoppers with 245 Down Down promotional prices. ShopHop has been building a price history database since April 2026 specifically to detect this kind of pricing behaviour, flagging promotions that are not supported by genuine price history using the ACCC methodology.

Data collection

ShopHop collects prices by reading publicly accessible product pages and price data from the Woolworths, Coles and Aldi Australia websites. No accounts, loyalty cards or logged in sessions are used. All data reflects what any member of the public would see.

Price history storage

Every price observation is stored with a date so the full history of any product can be reconstructed. ShopHop has stored more than two million price observations going back to April 2026.

Basket comparison methodology

The everyday basket tracks a fixed set of 20 staple items across all three chains. The basket uses the lowest unit price match for each item at each retailer. Missing items are excluded from that chain’s total rather than estimated. Full methodology →

What ShopHop does not do

  • It does not track every supermarket, only Woolworths, Coles and Aldi.
  • It does not use loyalty card or members only pricing in comparisons.
  • It is not a checkout service. It helps you decide where to shop, not buy directly.
