Neither. ShopHop records actual prices from the Woolworths, Coles and Aldi websites once a day. They are not averages or estimates. They are the prices we saw on the day. ShopHop also keeps the full price history for each product so you can see how a price has moved over time.

Yes. ShopHop is completely free to use. There is no subscription, no premium tier, and no requirement to create an account to search prices or view price history. An account is required to save shopping lists, set price alerts and use personalisation features.

No. ShopHop is independent — not owned, sponsored or paid by any supermarket to influence what we show. Some outbound Buy links are affiliate links that may earn us a commission; this never affects prices, rankings or special flags. ShopHop collects publicly available price data to provide an independent view of supermarket pricing.

What is a fake special and how does ShopHop detect them?

A fake special is a promotional price where the claimed was price was not genuinely charged for a meaningful period before the promotion began. In ACCC v Coles (May 2026), the Federal Court held that a brief hold was too short and that about 12 weeks would have met Coles' own guardrails in context — but that is not a statutory rule. ShopHop flags promotions where our observed price history does not support the claimed was price. These flags are informational only and do not constitute legal findings.

Shrinkflation is when a product’s pack size is reduced without a corresponding reduction in price, effectively making consumers pay more per unit for the same product. ShopHop’s shrinkflation tracker monitors size and weight changes across products and flags cases where the unit price has increased due to a pack size reduction.

How does the everyday basket comparison work?

ShopHop tracks a fixed set of 20 staple grocery items across Woolworths, Coles and Aldi. The basket total is updated daily and uses the lowest unit price match for each item at each chain. Items that are not stocked at a particular chain are excluded from that chain’s total.

Yes. If you create a free ShopHop account you can set a target price for any tracked product. ShopHop will notify you when that product drops to your target price at any of the three chains.

ShopHop includes Aldi alongside Woolworths and Coles in its comparisons. It shows price history for each tracked product rather than just today’s price. And it is independent — not sponsored or paid by any supermarket to influence what we show; affiliate links on outbound Buy buttons are disclosed and never affect data or rankings.
