Question 1

Does ShopHop use current prices or historical averages?

Accepted Answer

Neither. ShopHop records actual prices from the Woolworths, Coles and Aldi websites at least once a day. They are not averages or estimates. They are the prices we saw when we checked. ShopHop also keeps the full price history for each product so you can see how a price has moved over time.

Question 2

Which supermarkets does ShopHop compare?

Accepted Answer

ShopHop currently compares prices across Woolworths, Coles and Aldi Australia. All three chains are searched, but not every product is available or matched at every chain. IGA and other independent retailers are not currently tracked.

Question 3

How often are prices updated?

Accepted Answer

Once a day, overnight. What you see is usually the price from today or yesterday.

Question 4

Is ShopHop free to use?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ShopHop is completely free to use. There is no subscription, no premium tier, and no requirement to create an account to search prices or view price history. An account is required to save shopping lists, set price alerts and use personalisation features.

Question 5

Is ShopHop affiliated with Woolworths, Coles or Aldi?

Accepted Answer

No. ShopHop is independent — not owned, sponsored or paid by any supermarket to influence what we show. ShopHop does not currently earn commission on outbound Buy links. No payment affects prices, rankings or special flags. ShopHop collects publicly available price data to provide an independent view of supermarket pricing.

Question 6

What is a questionable special and how does ShopHop flag them?

Accepted Answer

ShopHop calls a special questionable when it is a promotional price where the claimed was price was not genuinely charged for a meaningful period before the promotion began. In ACCC v Coles (May 2026), the Federal Court held that a brief hold was too short and that about 12 weeks would have met Coles' own guardrails in context — but that is not a statutory rule. ShopHop flags promotions where our observed price history does not support the claimed was price. These flags are informational only and do not constitute legal findings.

Question 7

What is shrinkflation and does ShopHop track it?

Accepted Answer

Shrinkflation is when a product’s pack size is reduced without a corresponding reduction in price, effectively making consumers pay more per unit for the same product. ShopHop’s shrinkflation tracker monitors size and weight changes across products and flags cases where the unit price has increased due to a pack size reduction.

Question 8

How does the everyday basket comparison work?

Accepted Answer

ShopHop tracks a fixed set of 20 staple grocery items across Woolworths, Coles and Aldi. The basket total is updated daily and uses the lowest unit price match for each item at each chain. Items that are not stocked at a particular chain are excluded from that chain’s total.

Question 9

Can I set a price alert for a product?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If you create a free ShopHop account you can set a target price for any tracked product. ShopHop will notify you when that product drops to your target price at any of the three chains.

Question 10

How does ShopHop compare to other grocery price comparison sites in Australia?

Accepted Answer

ShopHop includes Aldi alongside Woolworths and Coles in its comparisons. It shows price history for each tracked product rather than just today’s price. It flags promotions where observed history does not support the claimed was price (informed by ACCC v Coles, but not a legal finding). And it is independent — not sponsored or paid by any supermarket to influence what we show; affiliate links on outbound Buy buttons are disclosed and never affect data or rankings.

Question 11

What data does ShopHop collect about me?

Accepted Answer

ShopHop collects the minimum data needed to provide its service. For users without an account, search queries may be logged anonymously to improve search relevance. For users with an account, account details, saved lists and price alerts are stored. ShopHop does not sell user data and does not use it for advertising. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
